Our history (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

The beginnings

Our local group, Nye County Valor Quilters, was started in January of 2016 by Denise Kearl, a veteran herself,. There were initially 25 members who awarded 90 quilts that first year.

Since its creation, the group was structured to award quilts to veterans in formal ceremonies, open to the public, to add emotional value to the object itself, to involve the community and to  try to rectify the indifferent (and sometimes hostile) way some of those veterans were received when they initially returned home

Currently

Today we have 52 members and up- to-date, we have awarded 377 quilts to our local veterans.

We are members of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, a national, non-profit organization and all our members are volunteers. Since we do not receive any financial support, we depend on donations to buy the fabric and materials needed while our members donate their time and work (and very frequently, they also buy the fabric for the quilts they make).
